Special Education Teacher

Berkshire Meadows in Housatonic, MA serves children and adults with complex medical, intellectual and developmental differences. The 365-day-a-year program includes nursing and medical services, a school, day habilitation and activities of daily living development. Set in the picturesque Berkshire Hills, Berkshire Meadows has homelike residences that are fully accessible enabling and maximizing growth and skill development. Our focus is on the complex needs of the individuals, enabling our residents to receive the most advanced diagnostic services, treatment, and supportive care.

Job Description:

Special Education Teacher: Join a supportive treatment team working with children of unique talents! JRI/Berkshire Meadows is looking for a licensed Special Education Teacher for children with severe/profound developmental disabilities.

The ideal licensed Special Education Teacher will be caring, compassionate, consistent and reliable with a desire to make a difference in the life of individuals with limited communication, physical and cognitive skills. Must be a team player capable of effectively working across departments, providing a positive and supportive environment. Engages and promotes joyful interactions with all students, clients and staff at Berkshire Meadows. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, follow policies about medical and clinical care, and have the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and prepare and instructional materials.
  • Understands and implements each students Individual Educational Plan (IEP)
  • Plan weekly classroom activities
  • Supervise classroom paraprofessionals
  • Follow all procedures related to authorization, monitoring, physician's orders, observation, and documentation
  • Work as a team to support best treatment plans including other disciplines (OT, PT, Nursing, Residential Counselors)
  • Maintains cleanliness of classroom. Assists with activities of daily living, including meals and toileting. Supervises students at all times.


Requirements:
  • MA DESE License in Special Education (severe disabilities preferred) AND we are able to consider candidates who are currently pursuing their license. (Will provide supervision and training to expand your professional expertise.)
  • Must meet programs requirements for background check.
  • Current certification in CPR (Training provided if needed)
  • Must be able to work alone unsupervised
  • Maintains valid driver's license.
  • Full-time Position (40 hours per week) - School Days
